Southampton are set for a frantic finish to the transfer window with a string of moves lined up.

Southampton are close to finalising a double deal with Manchester City for young prospects, winger Sam Edozie and full-back Juan Larios.

They are also hoping to secure midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles on loan from Arsenal and remain keen to bring in Dutch forward Cody Gakpo from PSV.

There could also be reinforcements in defence before Thursday’s deadline, with Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car in their sights if Aston Villa-target Jan Bednarek moves on.

Southampton, who appointed City’s former head of youth recruitment Joe Shields as their new head of senior recruitment this summer, have already signed two promising prospects from the Etihad club in this window.

Goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu and midfielder Romeo Lavia have quickly established themselves as starters in Ralph Hasenhuttl’s team.

They are now set to be joined by England under-19 wideman Edozie and versatile Spain under-19 defender Larios who can operate in both full-back positions.

Southampton have also had a £21m bid for Gakpo rejected and there is still a gap between the two clubs and their respective valuations.

But Southampton remain hopeful they could still pull off a coup and also land the Dutch international forward before the window closes.

The arrivals could be balanced by departures with the likes of Jack Stephens and Nathan Redmond among those who could leave.

There is also interest in a permanent move for versatile defender Yan Valery from France.
