KL artisanal mall puts homegrown brands front and centre

MALAYSIA’s rich and diverse culture is defined by its food, handicrafts, cultural performances, architecture and more. 

This has spurred many entrepreneurs in the local scene to enter the market, each bursting with originality and creativity. 

In order to provide a dedicated platform for local craftsmen, traders and artistes, Malaysia Grand Bazaar (MGB) in Bukit Bintang City Centre (BBCC) was established. 

Directly connected to Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport Kuala Lumpur and Zepp Kuala Lumpur, this artisanal mall was developed to provide a dedicated platform for artisans, micro-brands, start-ups and art entrepreneurs to scale their businesses into the physical retailing space.  

MGB’s vision is to become the incubator for local brands to reach out to a larger customer base by having a presence in a prime location which can attract both locals and tourists,

With 100,000 sq ft of carefully curated spaces with touches of heritage architecture, up to 100 artisanal and authentic local brands are currently housed in MGB.

Visitors looking for fashionable pieces with a traditional touch should check out Changgih Designs.

Featuring a collection of handbags, wallets, accessories, scarves and clothing meticulously designed by artisans in Sabah villages, they offer a range of beautiful and durable products.

Other local fashion brands include Napel, which pride themselves in creating eco-friendly and 100 per cent handmade apparel. 

From knitted clothing to boho jewellery, their quality and practical products make for great gifts for friends and loved ones.

Those who prefer batik-inspired wear will be glad to discover Just Mar’s collection of batik tops, pants, bags and gifts.

With all these tenants and more, MGB is set to become a bustling one-stop centre for locals as well as tourists to explore the unique culture of Malaysia.  

This is in line with EcoWorld’s Anak-Anak Malaysia campaign, as it aims to appreciate local artists, artisans and designers with the overall theme #GENERASiSENSASi.

With the five main pillars of this campaign being sight, sound, texture and taste, these senses culminate at each corner of Malaysia by featuring homegrown talent and art in all its forms.

All in all, EcoWorld wants to encourage all Malaysians to appreciate the craft and to rejuvenate the small business sector, especially homemade and handmade ones.
